Jamaica, I'm coming

Here I am, sitting at my desk in my room in little old Mount Union, Pennsylvania. Next stop for me is Hoboken, New Jersey where I will spend the night impatiently waiting for 9:30 am to arrive. At that time, I will be filled with so much anticipation because I will be on my way to another country. Not just any country though, but JAMAICA!!! I still have no idea what to expect and cannot believe I have been given this opportunity. A little about me: I have never flown on a plane before so that’s exciting, I have never been to another country so that’s even more exciting, and I am finally completely packed and ready to start my adventure so the excitement is uncontainable! I packed so much and still feel like I did not pack enough but at the same time, I would be willing to go with $5 and a bottle of water and be fine.

Everyone has goals, dreams, hopes, etc. and this is one of mine. This is literally what I have talked about doing my whole life and what I will continue to participate in. I have a strong desire to travel the world and to witness how a variety of cultures live their daily lives. While traveling the world, my ultimate goal is to make a difference; not only in the lives of others but also in my own life as well. I cannot wait to see how this trip changes me physically, mentally, and definitely emotionally; I am eager to connect with the people in Jamaica (especially the kids). I packed some extras for them (some of which my little sister appreciatively gave) and cannot wait to see how much they love the donations. Honestly, I wanted to bring so much with me. I have too much and I know they barely have enough and that kills me inside. I never realize how much I actually have until I sit down and think about how much less others have, but I packed as much as I could fit in my suitcase. I’m also willing to come home with nothing but a backpack (or a few kids) so we’ll see how that goes. lol but in all honestly, I might have to bring a few kids back with me or I might end up having to stay in Jamaica a little longer.. 😜

The hardest part about traveling and/or residing in a different area is the fact that I have to leave so many people behind. If I could, I would take my whole family and friends wherever I went so they could enjoy the same sights, sounds, smells, and tastes around the world that I do. Even the smallest of things such as witnessing a new bug crawl on my arm is enough for me to alert everyone back home. They’re my biggest supporters and I would not be blogging about this trip today if it weren’t for them: “I THANK, LOVE, AND MISS ALL OF YOU ALREADY!” I can’t wait to tell you guys all about Jamaica!

Physical objects might make a kid’s day instantly but being a companion to them will last a lifetime. That’s exactly what I plan on doing throughout this trip; being a friend. I cannot wait to work my butt off and then relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery around me. I have heard nothing but positive comments about this trip and I thank Thea Zunick for arranging the plans to make this happen; you are an unbelievably caring person. I am so ready to do whatever it takes to improve the lives of those in Jamaica when I get there! I also cannot wait to share my thoughts, experiences, and cultural perception with everyone willing to listen! 💕

One love,
Cheyenne Fye
